About Department

The Automobile Engineering discipline was established in the year 1999.

In the year 1999, RJIT introduced Automobile Engineering for the first time in the Central India to impart & spread Automobile engineering education in the region. Automobile Engineering department is also running M.Tech-Automobile Engineering since 2011. The department gets full support from Central School of Motor Transport wing (A Centre of Excellence, declared by Govt. of India) of BSF Academy, Tekanpur in the form of Automobile based laboratories besides, providing additional training to our students. Further, the department of Automobile Engineering is committed to impart quality & value based Automobile education to its students in the form of rigorous lab work supplemented with comprehensive theory classes. Designing software like AUTOCAD & PRO-E are available in the department to enhance the design & drafting skills of the students.

Passed out students of the Automobile Department are well placed in reputed organizations like Audi India, Maruti Suzuki, TVS, Hero Motors etc. across the globe in various fields like Designing, Sales, Marketing, R&D Service etc.

The department also offers specialized M. Tech. programme in Automobile Engineering.

Facilities

VGTAP Lab

VG-TAP (Volkswagen Technical Apprenticeship Program) RJIT Gwalior was established on 13th May, 2015.

It is an MOU between VGSIPL(Volkswagen sales India Private limited) and RJIT, where the industrial skill of faculties and students is upgraded to global requirements. The VG-TAP training facility consist of state of art modern lab consisting of air-conditioned and wi-fi enabled classroom, well equipped training centre with AUDI A6 vehicle for practical demonstration to the students. The lab consists of modern diagnostic equipment, engines, transmission and tools.

VGTAP RJIT has trained more than 60 students of the institute for AUDI India and presently 5th batch of final year B.E. and diploma students of Automobile and Mechanical engineering streams are getting trained as per requirement of AUDI-India.

Research

Departmental Research (SAE-BAJA-2015)

The BAJA SAE Series is an event for the undergraduate engineering students, organized globally by the Society of Automotive Engineers, USA. The event originated in the name of Mini – BAJA, in the year 1976 at University of Carolina. Since then, the event has spanned across six countries – USA, Mexico, South Africa, Korea, Brazil and India. The BAJA SAE tasks the students to design, fabricate and validate a single seater four – wheeled off road vehicle to take part in series of events spread over a course of 3 days that test the vehicle for the sound engineering practices that have gone into it, the agility of the vehicle in terms of gradability, speed, acceleration and manoeuvrability characteristics and finally its ability to endure that back breaking durability test. Several factors contribute to making a winning buggy. First and foremost the buggy has to meet the strict specification of the rule book. The philosophy hasnt changed since the event’s birth back in 1976 – the teams still need to build a simple all-terrain vehicle for recreation purpose that is aesthetically and ergonomically sound while still being a fun and durable machine in the real world conditions. The evaluation process for the BAJA SAEINDIA is a twofold process and students have to clear the Virtual Baja preliminary round before they start manufacturing their buggy’s for the main events.
