Overview
In pursuance of its Action Plan for performance evaluation, assessment and accreditation and quality up-gradation of institutions of higher education, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) proposes that every accredited institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a quality sustenance measure.
Since quality enhancement is a continuous process, the IQAC will become a part of the institution's system and work towards realization of the goals of quality enhancement and sustenance. The prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the overall performance of institutions.
For this, during the post-accreditation period, institutions need to channelize efforts and measures towards promoting the holistic academic excellence including the peer committee recommendations.
📌 What is IQAC?
The IQAC is the first step towards the internalization and institutionalization of quality enhancement. It has the potential to become a vehicle for ushering in quality by working out intervention strategies to remove deficiencies and enhance quality — similar to quality circles in industries.

Functions of IQAC
1 Quality Assurance & Enhancement
- Develop and apply quality benchmarks for academic and administrative activities.
- Ensure continuous improvement in teaching-learning processes.
- Promote Outcome-Based Education (OBE).
2 Academic Monitoring
- Regular review of Lesson Plans, Course Outcomes (CO), Program Outcomes (PO), and student performance.
- Encourage use of modern teaching methods including ICT tools and smart classrooms.
3 Feedback System
- Collect structured feedback from students, faculty, and stakeholders.
- Analyze feedback and suggest actionable improvements.
4 Faculty Development
- Organize Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), Workshops, Seminars, and Conferences.
- Encourage research publications, patents, and consultancy activities.
5 Student Support & Progression
- Monitoring of placements, internships, and higher education progression.
- Promote skill development programs and soft skills training.
6 Preparation for Accreditation
